For lawns and most plants, the time of day for watering to ensure maximum absorption is as early as 3 a.m. and no later than 7 a.m. While many homeowners are gardening enthusiasts, not all are enthusiastic enough to climb out of bed in the wee hours to turn on the water. Because overwatering is wasteful as well as harmful to plants, the water must be shut off at just the right time. Digital timers like those manufactured by Melnor permit unattended watering at precise times each day when you correctly program them.
