The Allen-Bradley 1746-BAS is a single-slot module under the SLC 500 series. The 1746-BAS is compatible with the fixed or modular controller chassis of the SLC 500 series. The 1746-BAS has 2 configurable serial ports used for RS-232, RS-485 and RS-422 communication with I/O devices. The 1746 I/O backplane or the DH-485 channel can be used for communication with a SLC 500 via the module’s DH-485 port.

Automation is our foundation. We are dedicated innovators delivering smarter, connected solutions to the world around us. Our future is propelled by our long legacy of creating Allen-Bradley integrated control and information solutions that make you as productive as possible. A DeltaV Programmable Serial Interface Card with the Allen-Bradley driver may communicate with the Allen-Bradley PLC-5 Family of Programmable Logic Controllers, the Allen-Bradley SLC-500 Family of Serial Logic Controllers and/or Allen-Bradley PLC-3 Family of Programmable Logic Controllers within the constraints delineated herein.
The 1746-BAS has 24K bytes battery-supported RAM with a voluntary 8K or 32K byte EEPROM memory modules that are nonvolatile. It also features LED indicators to enhance operation monitoring. The 1747-M1, 1747-M2, 1747-M3 and the 1747-M4memory modules are compatible with the 1746-BAS. These modules are programmed with an ASCII terminal or using the 1747-PBASE BASIC developer software.

The PRT1 communication port on the 1746-BAS is a serial port. It is used to interface the module with external devices. This port has the RS-232/RS-423, RS-422 and RS-485 communication ports. The PRT1 port has full duplex capabilities and can operate at 300, 600, 1200, 2400, 4800, 9600 and 19200 bps.The 1746-BAS has two extra ports: the PRT2 and DH-485 port. The PRT2 port is used to interface the module with external devices using the DFI protocol. This port has full duplex capabilities. The DH-485 port is used to connect the module to a DH-485 network. To use the DH-485 port the 1747-AIC link coupler must be used to connect the port with the DH-485 network. Note that when the DFI protocol is enabled on PRT2 the DH-485 communication is inactive.
